Jingiri Families!

Thank you to all of the parents and students who have taken the time to have a chat with me over the last few weeks. The community has been overwhelmingly welcoming and I am thrilled to be a part of it. The messages I am hearing from students and parents have been clear and strong – we value our school and our teachers!

As we prepare for Term 4, we know our time will be busy with lots of end of year events. Our students and staff work very hard during the last term of the year, achieving successes and making memories that can last a lifetime. It is important during Term 4 to take time to reflect on the year of learning and be proud of how far we have travelled during the year.

We can use Mindfulness strategies, such as identifying what we are grateful for, to boost our own wellbeing. Gratitude is always important, to appreciate the things that we may take for granted – like having a place to live, food, clean water, friends, family, even access to technology. Gratitude is pausing to notice and appreciate these things, it’s taking a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are when something good happens — whether it’s a small thing or a big thing. Did you know that practising gratitude for 21 days in a row can re-train the brain to look for positives in the world instead of negatives? By simply being grateful, children and young people can experience a greater sense of optimism, happiness and calm. (Source: QED resources)

Road Safety

We were recently reminded about the importance of road safety and pedestrian safety for all of our students. Planning with your children to stay safe when near roads, car parks and driveways can be life-saving information. Please take the time to engage in the ‘Pedestrian Safety’ activities with your children, by following this link: https://www.racq.com.au/cars-and-driving/safety-on-the-road/educational-programs/primary-school-program

Holidays

Wishing our families a happy and safe September holidays. Looking forward to seeing everyone back and refreshed for Term 4!

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Student Led Conferences

Our school took a temperature check of the Logan area this week due to COVID and have decided to post pone our Student Led Conferences until the afternoon and evening of Tuesday the 12th October.

As I have previously written, having student voice and allowing our students to lead their learning conference has so many valuable purposes. It builds agency and self-responsibility. Our vision at our school is to assist our students to become life- long learners.

A new link for the booking system will be sent out shortly.

Swimming

Swimming_cartoon.png

Our school will be commencing school swimming lessons for Prep to Year 6 students as part of our Learn to Swim Program in Term 4 at Aquatic Achievers, located at the Sleeman Sports Complex in Chandler. This program incorporates both learn to swim and water safety in each lesson.

A permission form will be sent out at the end of the week with the full details and dates. The cost is $60 and is due by the 14th October. Please see the Business Manager's article for payment options.

Brainstorms Production – First week back

In the first week of Term 4, all students will be involved in a 50-minute live theatre performance called ‘The Magic Words.’ This performance inspires children face to face, role playing life’s difficulties with kindness and compassion. The actors are young, professional performers who are positive role models for students.

The themes of kindness and compassion are aligned with the Australian Curriculum under the Personal and Social Capabilities. This performance also supports our Positive Behaviour for Learning school model.

Year 5 students will be at camp during this performance. The cost of this session is FREE as the P&C are funding this special event for our school.

Year 5 Camp

A reminder that Year 5 students will be at camp at Coolum in the first week back starting on Wednesday the 6th October until Friday the 8th October. Can I please thank the staff involved in this camp for their time and organisation to make such a memorable event happen. The bus will be leaving at 9am sharp, so we are asking that you leave enough time to bring luggage and say good bye to your children.

We will be communicating clearly to parents of that week any important COVID updates. We have our fingers and toes crossed that this camp will go ahead, but please be understanding in this situation. Any communication will be derived directly from our Director General.

We are so lucky!

Queenslanders have been very fortunate compared to other states this term. Our schools have been open. We have been able to host several wonderful events this term, including Book Dress up Day, Year 4 character building incursion, fire safety incursion.

The Year One students had the fire fighters visit them this term which was a very exciting morning! Year One students learnt about their job, and important skills required. The fire fighters also talked about procedures on how to fight a fire. Our Year One students have been learning about procedural texts and found this presentation to be very helpful, leading up to their presentations which they delivered in class for their English Assessment.

Year 2 and Year 3 Excursion are now in Term 4

Please be aware that the Year 2 Lone Pine’s excursion has been postponed to the 13th of October and the Year 3 Beenleigh Historical Village excursion has been postponed to the 1st November.

The Rocky Monster School Musical

'The Rocky Monster Show' performed by our Year 5 and 6 students is showing in Term 4!  The school had originally planned for this evening to be held in the latter portion of this term, however, due to interruptions to our rehearsal schedule we have decided to delay our showing to Wednesday October 20 at 7:00pm.  This means you still have a chance to buy your tickets and support our students and teachers in this year’s musical event.

Under the watchful eye of Director Priddle the musical staff team, student leads and chorus have been giving up lunch times and evenings to prepare for you our 2021 musical.

Bizarre, anarchic and very funny, this Rock 'n' Roll musical is a riotous mix of the Addams Family, Young Frankenstein and Phantom of the Opera, with Rebecca and The Rocky Horror Show thrown in for good measure!

Baron Frankenstein's descendant, and ex-pop star turned professor of Genetics, creates DNA moulds of people in his computer. How these moulds come to life as the ultimate Rock Group, headed by a clone of Elvis himself is the highlight of the hilarious plot.

More traditional monsters also add spice to the explosive mixture. Staff, cast and audience will love the Rock 'n' Roll score, much of which is an affectionate send-up of the 60's. With some 20 principal parts including many splendid female roles, there is also plenty of chorus opportunity for maximum pupil participation.

This thrilling, humorous and oddly shaped band of characters meet together to provide a cacophony of sounds to interest and excite the audience.  Don’t miss Rochedale South’s rendition of ‘The Rocky Monster Show’.

A reminder that our show officially begins at 7:00pm with doors opening at 6:30pm. All attendees are required to check in via the QR sign and face masks will be required during the event.  We will send out the finalisations, including COVID safe operations, of the evening closer to the event.

In the event of another COVID outbreak precluding us from hosting the event live to audiences, we will change the venue to an online format and continue to perform the musical.

If restrictions prevent us from being able to perform the musical we will refund you the tickets and attempt to capture the musical prior to the finalisation of the year, time and restrictions permitting.

Tickets are on sale now!

 Ticket prices are:

Child (0-12yr old) - $4.00

Concession (13-17yr old) - $6.00

Adult (18+) - $7.00

The session is set up for Thursday night at 6.00pm doors open for 7.00pm start on September 9, in the PAC.

Dear parents/carers

Recently, the Prep parents for 2022 attended an information morning where Rochedale South’s values, policies, procedures and ways of working were presented. Part of this induction included a brief orientation of how Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) works in our school. Parents were given a matrix for teaching expectations at home that align with school expectations.

School rules are tabled in the RSSS PBL matrix which is the framework for the school’s four expectations -
Be Safe. Be Respectful. Be Responsible. Be a Learner.

The matrix is visible in the online version below. Please ask at the office if you would like a copy.

As we head into holidays, why not try devising an At Home Matrix with your child that continues teaching positive behaviours. Here is an example:

We are Safe

We are Respectful

We are  Responsible

We are Learners

At the Park

Use the equipment properly

Cross roads with an adult or at proper crossing

Speak kindly to other people

Take turns

Report when rules are broken

Watch and learn how others play

In the kitchen

Ask an adult before touching electrical items

Say please and thank you

Wait until the adult is ready to help

Listen to the instructions of the adult

Read labels for directions

Latest update on Excursion Payments

We are pleased that we have been able to secure new dates for both our Year 2 Lone Pine Excursion (13 October) and the Year 3 Beenleigh Excursion (1 November) in Term 4, so you are still able to make a payment if you are wishing your child to attend and haven’t yet paid.

The new cut off dates are as follows:

Year 2 Lone Pine Excursion –  7 October 2021

Year 3 Beenleigh Excursion -  21 October 2021

We are also planning on Year 5 camp going ahead in Week 1 of next term so all payments for that one should now be finalised.

This week we will be sending out invoices and information about our Term 4 swimming program so keep an eye out for those. As swimming is now in a new weekly format, payment plans are available to pay swimming off over the term. Please give the office a call if you would like to create a payment plan.

A final reminder also that all Student Resource Schemes including Laptop Program, should now be finalised. Statements will be sent out again this week as a final reminder of what is still owing. Your prompt attention to the outstanding amounts would be appreciated as we are making our last purchases for the year for the student resources using those funds.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school, have an enjoyable and safe Spring break and we look forward to welcoming you back for a fun filled final term for 2021.

CHAPPY CHAT

Thank you everyone for the fantastic support you showed at our Colour Explosion Fun Run last Saturday!  We were blessed by an amazing team of volunteers from our Chappy committee, school staff, local churches from our CONNECT team, and breakfast club volunteers.  Great things happen when people come together with a common vision and cause – and our school benefits from the community that is built and the memories that are made.

COLOUR EXPLOSION FUN RUN

The Colour Explosion Fun Run raised around $9 000 for Chaplaincy – totally exceeding our expectations for the event.  Our target was $7 500 to ensure our Chaplaincy Service could continue operating 3 days a week in 2022.  Thanks to the incredibly generous support of sponsors our service will finish the year in the black – after running at a deficit for 4 years!  What a blessing!  We rely on sponsorship and donations to cover 1.5 days of service in the school – it is not paid for by the government or other funding.  Without community support our school would be without vital care for the social, emotional and spiritual support of our people. THANK YOU!

Please click here to see the list of our amazing sponsors. Thank you all so much.

Check out the attached photos of the day!  Please do not repost any media.
