We are excited that the current tally for QParents has reached 200!!
For those who haven't had the chance to register look out for your next invitation to QParents. Please check your Junk mail also. Remember you have to register on a computer or laptop before you can use the app.
Once registered with your child's EQ ID (that you will find on an invoice), you then download the QParents app on your phone.
Many parents love the ability to advise the school of their child's ABSENCES and PAY their invoices directly from the app, along with many other facilities. When parents use the app to report Absences this frees up time in the office and the parent can put on the absence 24/7. Many are updating all the Unexplained Absences that their children may have.

A warm welcome back for a jam-packed Term 4.
The last term of the school year is particularly special for our students and educators as the culmination and celebration of the year of learning takes place in a range of events. With a musical, swimming lessons, band workshop, excursions, leadership selections, academic awards and more– our students are so lucky to engage in a range of learning experiences within and beyond the classroom.
We know it is an especially important term for our Year 6 students, as they prepare to transition to high school. At Rochedale South State School, we build the foundation of learning to secure confident future pathways for every individual student as they prepare to embark on their Secondary Education journey. The maturity and focus of our Year 6 graduating cohort of 2021 is a strong indication of their future successes and it is with great pride that we celebrate their Primary School journey across this term.
During Week 1 I was lucky enough to head up to Luther Heights Youth Camp and see our students in action! These experiences are invaluable with lots of “firsts” for many of our students. The comradery developed between peers during such an event can remain with them for years to come. Certainly, these events cannot go ahead without the commitment and time from dedicated staff members. To all of the staff involved with this experience I extend our utmost gratitude on behalf of the students and school community.
Summer Safety
As the weather begins to warm up, it is important that we are mindful to take steps to stay safe in the heat. Families are advised to ensure students are wearing sunscreen before coming to school each day. It is also a great idea for students to wear an odourless insect repellent in the Summer months, applied at home in the mornings. Always bring along a labelled school hat and refillable water bottle. These measures are important life-long skills for our students to learn to take responsibility for during Queensland Summer months.
From the Department of Education - Queensland Mental Health Week
Queensland Mental Health Week 9-17 October, is an annual awareness week that aims to shine a spotlight on mental health and wellbeing.
This year's theme is 'Take time for mental health' which focus on the six simple actions from the Queensland Government's Dear Mind initiative to improve our moods, build resilience and boost wellbeing. The six actions are:
- get healthy— being active and eating well is good for your mind as well as your body
- keep learning — learning new things can make you more confident as well as being fun
- show kindness — practising small acts of kindness, volunteering time, or simply helping a friend in need can help you feel more satisfied with life
- connect — spending time with other people is important to everyone's mental wellbeing
- take notice — paying more attention to the present and the world around you helps relieve stress and enjoy the moment
- embrace nature — connecting with the outdoors and taking care of the planet is the best recipe for world wellbeing.
We welcome the Deputy Principal Mr Charles back this week after his short leave period with his family.

Paea Taipaleti - Met East Rugby League
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Paea Taipaleti who represented the Met East Region in Girls Rugby League at the Queensland State Championships that were held up in Townsville across four days in September. Paea was said to be a little nervous in her first game, having only ever played club rugby league against mostly boys, but quickly got used to playing with the other girls in her team.
The Met East Region were strong enough to field two teams in the tournament this year and went on to win the QLD Championship Trophy. Met East Coaches were said to be excited when finding out that Paea was only 11 years old, meaning she will be eligible to play again next year.
Congratulations Paea on this wonderful achievement, we are extremely proud of you.
Met East Cricket Trials - Quinn & Riley
Congratulations to Quinn Davidson and Riley Cook who represented Logan District at the Met East Boys Cricket Trials on Monday 11th October. The boys were said to have put in a massive effort in both of their games across the day and played extremely well, scoring runs and taking catches and wickets. They boys said they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are keen to trial and participate again next year. Well done boys on this great achievement. Our School and the District are so proud of you.

HPE Teacher
As a PBL fortnightly focus, students are planning their learning and behavioural goals for Term 4 and beyond. Class discussions, many of them done in circle meeting format, involve a review of how well students have practised the four school rules - Safe, Responsible, Respectful, Learners, over the last three terms followed by a commitment to practise those skills that need more work.
Circle Questions:
What did you do well last term? (eg. I have been on time to class)
How do you know you did it well?
What has been the best term for you so far? Why?
What area would you like to improve?
This lesson is an example of our teaching approaches to PBL:

CHAPPY CHAT
Wow – Term 4 already! I wonder what this term means for you? For me it’s the return of short sleeves, fresh cut lawns, sunny mornings and long warm afternoons. Take time in the midst of all that life brings to appreciate the little, everyday blessings you see all around you. Mindfulness of this type encourages the ‘happy’ hormones in our brains and helps us practice gratitude for the many good things in our lives.

Back on the scene!
Welcome back everyone! We hope all families have had a lovely, well-spent holiday. Here at YMCA we kept ourselves very busy. Our visit to the Queensland Museum was a highlight for sure! Fun, fit, play was also another great day out. Although we had a fantastic time over the holiday break, we are happy to usher in a brand new school term. Can’t believe we are almost at the end of the year already! Check out the pictures below of some of our YMCA kids, hanging around doing their thing, first week back.
