FROM THE CHAPPY CORNER

Jingeri RSSS Families

At the end of term it was wonderful to see so many students confidently sharing their learning journey with parents and carers at the Student Led Conferences. Reflecting on our learning is such an important skill and helps us know the best 'next steps' as we grow. Our school also had a big review last term, where we as adults in the learning community are observed and provided objective feedback on our own learning as educators. It was such an encouragement to have our Chaplaincy service acknowledged as a valuable asset to our community - hooray!  Here is a snapshot of what Chaplaincy has been up to.

Dads and Kids Campout

Our second ever campout event was another great success with over 30 families booked in to camp on the oval. A few of our families were unable to attend due to sickness but I always say "The people who turn up are the ones who are meant to be there!" The campout began with some challenging SURVIVOR games where teams played off against each other in battles of wit, speed and strength. Shout out to Mia who hung from the monkey bars the longest! Highlights of the campout were dessert! smores around the campfire, and the night nature walk to spot some of the wonderful creatures living on campus.  The plan is for the campout to be a biennial event (every 2 years).

Bridge to Brisbane

Chappy2.png
On Sunday 8 September I joined gazillions of others to walk the Bridge to Brisbane for the first time. I was very relieved to see the end in sight after 10 kms and grateful to my husband, Graeme, for joining me on the walk. Chaplaincy partly relies on community and school donations to work in schools, and I was walking to help fund a deficit in our budget for 2024. If you would like to contribute to this great service you can make a donation here https://su.org.au/donate/rochedale-south-ss-chaplaincy-non-tax-deductible/ Just $5 a month makes a difference. Thank you!

Breaky club gets a visit from MP Mick DeBrenni

Our faithful breakfast club volunteer, Anne Kotzur from Our Saviour Lutheran Church, recently advocated for Chaplaincy at one of Minister De Brenni's mobile office meet-ups. Anne talked about the great work of Chaplaincy in our school and was so enthusiastic Minister De Brenni and staffer Fiona, visited us on Friday 6 September to see the service for themselves. It was a wonderful opportunity to express thanks for the support our government gives to enable wellbeing programs like Chaplaincy to exist in our schools, and also an opportunity to share some of our ongoing needs. Mrs Wood also took the opportunity to show the Minister our senior toilet block and advocate for a new amenities block. Thanks Minister De Brenni and Fiona for helping serve breakfast alongside our wonderful volunteers!

Triple P - Positive Parenting Program

It was fantastic to have 20 parents join our Triple P group course in term 3. One group met on Friday mornings, the other on Tuesday evenings. Triple P is an evidence based positive parenting program that exists to support parents in the challenges of raising healthy, resilient, independent adults (which is the ultimate task of parenting right?). The course will be on offer again in Term 1, 2025 - keep an eye on newsletters, szapp and FB for details. Look at the smiles on these parents who feel calmer, more in control and more confident in their parenting skills after completing the course!

Blessings, Chappy Cassie Love
